Remote access/ Remote control via VNC
VNC stands for “virtual network computing” and is a network protocol that makes it possible to control the unit remotely via a network (within the company or via the Internet). It can be used across platforms. VNC uses a special network protocol to transfer the entire screen content of the Thermo-6 unit (VNC server) on the network to another device/machine (VNC client). To be able to access the unit's screen content, the unit must be connected to the company network in order to be able to access it via the IP address with a browser. If VNC access is granted to the unit, it has full control over the unit!
NOTE!
- Gate-6 is not required for remote access via VNC remote control. → only for remote control via a mobile unit (cell phone, tablet).
- The temperature control unit must be connected directly to the company network. → only if the Thermo-6 is to be accessed from any computer in the network
- The OPC UA and VNC data interface can be used in parallel.
- With remote access via VNC remote control, command is identical to command directly on the unit (screen content is transferred).
Procedure with web-based VNC client
- Connect the Thermo-6 unit and the computer (PC) with an Ethernet cable.
- On the basic screen, tap on the profile button
- Select [User Profile] and set it to “Maintenance.”
- On the home basic screen, tap the menu button
- Select [Setting] > [Remote Control] > [Remote Access Via VNC]
- Switch on the function with the slider ().
→ The VNC server is started
→ The blue frame around the controller on the Thermo-6 temperature control system unit indicates active remote access.
- Select [Setting] > [Remote Control] > [Network] > [IP Address (Current)]
- Enter the IP address that is displayed on the Thermo-6 unit under [IP address (current)] in your local web browser, followed by “:5800" (e.g. 10.0.100. 6:5800) and press Enter (→ Fig.).
- Click on “Click here to connect using noVNC” and enter the VNC password. An additional VNC Viewer window opens in your web browser, which shows the screen content of the Thermo-6 unit.
→ You can view the VNC password on the unit under [Setting] > [Remote Control] > [VNC Password]).
Web-based VNC client settings
To adjust the resolution of the VNC screen to the resolution of your local unit, you can set this as described below. This function is useful to display the screen content of the Thermo-6 unit on your screen in the best possible quality and size, particularly for presentation and training purposes.
- Click on the symbol () on the left edge of the VNC Viewer window to open the control panel (→ Fig.).
- Tap the settings button () on the control bar.
- In the scaling mode drop-down menu, select “Local Scale” and validate the selection.
