The external circuit, which is connected to the unit via the Main line and return lines, should be emptied before opening (e.g. To change the injection mold). The purpose of the “mold emptying” function is to ensure that as little heat transfer medium as possible escapes when the external circuit is opened. The efficiency of mould evacuation is essentially determined by the geometry of the connected external circuit (blind holes, parallel connections, different line cross-sections, valves). Depending on the device design, different mould evacuation emptying options are available:

NOTE!

  • Mould evacuation is only carried out if all temperatures (Main line, Return line and, if available, external) are lower than the setting of the parameter [Mould evacuation temperature] and [Safety cooling temperature]. The default setting is 70 °C.
  • Before opening the hydraulic connections between the temperature control unit and the external heat transfer circuit, the system pressure must be 0 bar ±0.3.

The procedure for activating and setting the duration applies to all variants.

Switch on mould evacuation

  1. Press the function button on the basic screen
→ The button must be held down for time. ¼ s to carry out the function.

Or

  1. On the home basic screen, tap the menu button
  2. Select [Functions] > [Mould Evacuation]
  3. Switch on the function with the slider

Set the duration of mould evacuation

If necessary, set the desired emptying time before the mould evacuation emptying process is switch on on.

  1. On the home basic screen, tap the menu button
  2. Select [Setting] > [Miscellaneous] > [Mould evacuation time]
  3. Set the parameter to the desired value

Mould evacuation with pump reversal (standard with 4T/4S pump)

Prerequisite

  • Thermo-6 with peripheral wheel pump (4T/4S)

How it works

As standard (without additional ZG/ZN equipment), the 4T/4S pump reverses the pump direction. The water is sucked out of the external circuit by reversing the pump direction. By sucking air from the atmosphere into the heat transfer circuit, it is emptied and depressurised. The unit then switches off.

The water is discharged via the cooling water outlet or the system water outlet, depending on the setting. Further Information about this here.

Mould evacuation with compressed air (ZG)

Prerequisite

  • ZG additional equipment

How it works

With the ZG additional equipment, the external circuit is drain using compressed air. The water is blown out using connected compressed air and depressurised. Depending on the setting, the water/air mixture is fed into the cooling water outlet, system water outlet or into the Compressed air outlet. The unit then switches off.

NOTE!

  • The pump is not in operation during mould evacuation emptying.
  • For efficient drain, connect a sufficiently sized tank container or a pressureless water outlet to the Compressed air outlet (AIR OUT).
  • When emptied into the water drain, the pressure relief may result in water leakage at the Compressed air outlet (AIR OUT), particularly if there is a high backpressure in the water drain.
  • Drain with compressed air can be started from the “ready to operate” operating mode, as long as all temperatures (Main line, Return line and, if available, external) are lower than the setting of the [Mould evacuation temperature] parameter.

Output of drain

The water/air mixture is fed into the cooling/system water outlet or into the Compressed air outlet (AIR OUT).

Thermo-6 with peripheral wheel pump (4T/4S)

As an alternative to standard drain into the cooling water outlet, the drain can be switched to the Compressed air outlet using a software parameter setting.

DrainThe water/air mixture is fed into the cooling water outlet or the system water outlet (standard setting)
TankThe water-air mixture is fed into the Compressed air outlet (AIR OUT).
  1. On the home basic screen, tap the menu button
  2. Select [Setting] > [Miscellaneous] > [Mould evacuation with compressed air]
  3. Set the parameter to the desired value
